Day-by-Day 3 Day Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe – Scenic Private Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Your Uganda gorilla journey begins when your Maseke Adventures driver-guide meets you at your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.
Leave the city behind and travel southwest through Uganda’s changing countryside.
The journey itself gives you your first look at the country beyond the airport — roadside towns, farms, rolling hills and the increasingly mountainous landscapes of southwestern Uganda.
We make appropriate stops along the route for meals, refreshments and rest.
Later in the day, arrive in the Bwindi region and check into the lodge selected for your trekking sector.
There is no need to fill the evening with activities.
Tomorrow is the reason you came.
Enjoy dinner, prepare your trekking equipment and settle in for your first night beside one of Africa’s great rainforests.
Accommodation: Budget / Mid-Range / Luxury lodge near Bwindi
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Journey: Entebbe/Kampala → Bwindi
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Wake up early for breakfast before transferring to the appropriate Bwindi trekking point.
After registration and the official morning briefing, you will be assigned to a trekking group and enter the forest with Uganda Wildlife Authority guides and trackers.
There is no guaranteed walking time.
The gorillas move freely through their natural habitat, and reaching your allocated family can involve anything from a shorter forest walk to several hours over steep, muddy or uneven terrain.
Then the guide slows down. Somewhere ahead, branches move.
And suddenly, there they are. You may find a silverback resting beneath the canopy, youngsters playing in the vegetation or a mother feeding with an infant close by.
Once your allocated habituated gorilla family is located, the standard trekking experience provides the regulated observation period permitted by UWA.
This is not a zoo encounter. You have walked into their rainforest.
After the experience, trek back out of the forest and reunite with your Maseke driver-guide.
Return to the lodge to rest and reflect on a day that, for many travelers, becomes the defining memory of their journey to Uganda.
Depending on timing and your selected package, an optional cultural experience may be arranged separately.
Accommodation: Same lodge or comparable property near Bwindi
Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch & dinner
Main Activity: Mountain gorilla trekking
Day 3: Bwindi – Return to Entebbe
Enjoy breakfast surrounded by the hills and forests of southwestern Uganda before beginning your private journey back towards Entebbe.
The return drive provides another opportunity to enjoy Uganda’s rural landscapes and stop for photographs or refreshments where practical.
Your guide will drop you at your Entebbe hotel or another agreed location.
If you have an international flight on the same day, tell us your departure time before booking so we can determine whether the road itinerary gives you sufficient margin.
For travelers with tight flight schedules, we may recommend an additional Entebbe night or the fly-in version of this safari.
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Journey: Bwindi → Entebbe/Kampala

Drive or Fly to Bwindi?
Option 1: Private 4×4 Road Safari
This is the classic version of the trip.
Your Maseke driver-guide picks you up in Entebbe/Kampala and remains with you throughout the road safari.
Why choose road travel?
- Lower cost than flying
- Private vehicle
- See more of Uganda
- Flexible stops
- Door-to-door lodge transfers
- Your driver-guide accompanies the overall journey
The trade-off is simple: Entebbe to Bwindi is a long road journey, so Day 1 and Day 3 involve substantial driving.
Best for: Budget and mid-range travelers, first-time visitors and travelers who enjoy overland journeys.
Option 2: Fly-In Gorilla Safari
A scheduled domestic flight can dramatically reduce the amount of time spent on the road.
Depending on your trekking sector and flight arrangements, you can fly from Entebbe to an airstrip serving the Bwindi region and continue by private road transfer to your lodge.
Why fly?
- Less time on long-distance roads
- More relaxed 3-day itinerary
- Excellent for short trips
- Works particularly well with luxury lodges
Best for: Luxury travelers, honeymooners, older travelers, repeat visitors and anyone with limited time.
COMPARE ROAD & FLY-IN PRICES
Choose Your Bwindi Accommodation
Your lodge should not be selected independently of your gorilla permit.
Bwindi has different trekking sectors, and staying in the wrong area can create unnecessary transfers on trekking morning.
Maseke therefore matches your accommodation with your confirmed trekking sector, budget and preferred comfort level.
Budget Accommodation
Simple, clean accommodation with the essential comforts needed for a short gorilla journey.
Best for: Travelers prioritizing the gorilla experience over lodge luxury.
Mid-Range Accommodation
Comfortable rooms, good meals and convenient access to the appropriate trekking area.
This is the option we recommend for many travelers seeking a balance of comfort and price.
Higher-end properties offering upgraded rooms, atmosphere, service and locations that make the lodge part of the safari experience.
Ultra-Luxury Upgrade
If you want the highest accommodation level available for your sector, ask us to build the quotation around premium Bwindi properties and a fly-in itinerary.
SHOW ME 2027 LODGE OPTIONS

Your US$800 Gorilla Permit
Your gorilla permit is one of the most important elements of the booking.
For planning this 2027 package, the page uses US$800 per foreign non–resident traveler as the permit assumption.
The permit gives you access to the official regulated gorilla trekking experience on your confirmed date.
Gorilla permits are limited.
Your lodge and trekking sector should therefore be coordinated with the permit rather than booking accommodation first and hoping a suitable permit remains available.
Important 2027 pricing note: Uganda Wildlife Authority determines official gorilla permit tariffs. If UWA changes the US$800 tariff for your 2027 trekking date or your visitor category attracts a different tariff, the official applicable rate will replace this planning assumption in your final quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a 3-day Uganda gorilla safari in 2027?
For planning purposes, Maseke’s 2027 road safari can be presented from approximately US$1,650 per person for budget, US$1,950 for mid-range and US$2,750 for luxury, based on two travelers sharing. A luxury fly-in version can start around US$3,650 per person. Final prices depend on travel dates, lodge availability, group size, flights and the official gorilla permit tariff.
Is the US$800 gorilla permit included?
Yes, this package uses a US$800 foreign non-resident permit as the 2027 planning assumption and includes it within the displayed starting price. The final quotation will use the official UWA tariff applicable to your trekking date and visitor category.
Is this a private safari?
Yes. Your road transportation and driver-guide are private to your booking. The actual gorilla trek operates according to Uganda Wildlife Authority’s regulated trekking arrangements and may include other permitted trekkers.
Where does the safari start?
The standard road safari starts with pickup in Entebbe or Kampala. Other starting points can be quoted on request.
Can you pick me up at Entebbe International Airport?
Yes, subject to your arrival time and agreed itinerary. If your international flight arrives late, we recommend staying overnight in Entebbe and starting the road journey the following morning.
How long is the drive from Entebbe to Bwindi?
It is a substantial full-day road journey. Exact driving time depends on the trekking sector, road conditions, traffic and stops.
Can I fly instead of drive?
Yes. We can quote a fly-in itinerary using domestic flights and private road transfers between the relevant airstrip and Bwindi.
Is the gorilla trek guaranteed?
A confirmed permit gives you access to the official trekking activity on the specified date, subject to UWA rules and exceptional circumstances. Mountain gorillas are wild animals, so their movements and the exact nature of the encounter cannot be guaranteed.
How long will I spend with the gorillas?
The standard trek allows the regulated observation period with the habituated gorilla family once it has been located, following ranger instructions.
How difficult is the trek?
Difficulty varies. Gorillas move freely, so some treks are shorter while others involve several hours of walking across steep, uneven or muddy forest terrain.
The standard minimum age for Uganda gorilla trekking is 15 years.
Can I hire a porter?
Porters are generally available locally and can help carry your daypack and provide assistance on difficult sections. We encourage travelers who would benefit from this support to use one.
Good hiking footwear, long trousers, a long-sleeved top, rain protection, gloves, drinking water and a small daypack are recommended.
Can I change the lodge?
Yes. This is a customizable private safari. Lodge changes may alter the price and must also make practical sense for your confirmed trekking sector.
Can I add another gorilla trek?
Yes, subject to permit availability. We would normally recommend extending the trip rather than trying to fit two treks into the standard three-day itinerary.
Can I combine Bwindi with Queen Elizabeth National Park?
Absolutely. If you have five or more days, combining gorillas with Queen Elizabeth National Park creates a stronger wildlife-and-gorilla itinerary.
Is three days enough?
Yes, if gorilla trekking is your main priority. However, it is a fast road itinerary. Travelers who prefer slower travel should consider four or five days, while travelers with only three days but wanting greater comfort should consider flying.
Your 2027 Gorilla Trek Starts Here
You do not need to know which Bwindi sector to choose.
You do not need to know which lodge is closest to your permit.
And you do not need to work out whether driving or flying makes more sense on your own.
Tell us just five things:
- Your preferred 2027 travel date
- Number of travelers
- Budget, mid-range or luxury
- Road or fly-in preference
- Where you will be staying in Entebbe/Kampala
Maseke Adventures can then build the appropriate quotation around your journey and available gorilla permits.
