Uganda Gorilla & Serengeti Safaris – Private East African Tours & Prices

Two countries. Two extraordinary wildlife experiences. One unforgettable African safari.

Imagine standing in the misty rainforest of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

A powerful silverback mountain gorilla sits quietly a few metres away. Young gorillas play among the vegetation, while a mother gently holds her infant.

You spend an extraordinary hour observing one of the world’s most remarkable primates in its natural habitat.

A few days later, the scenery changes completely.

The rainforest gives way to Tanzania’s endless golden plains.

A lion rests beneath an acacia tree. Elephants cross the savannah. A cheetah scans the horizon.

And during the right season, enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras move across the Serengeti ecosystem.

This is the magic of combining Uganda’s mountain gorillas with Tanzania’s Serengeti.

At Maseke Adventures, we design private Uganda gorilla and Serengeti safaris for travelers who want to experience two of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations in one carefully planned journey.

Whether you are celebrating a honeymoon, planning a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, traveling with family or seeking an exclusive luxury safari, we can customize your itinerary around your interests, budget and preferred travel dates.

Why Combine Uganda Gorilla Trekking with the Serengeti?

Uganda and Tanzania offer two remarkably different safari experiences.

Uganda – An Intimate Encounter with Mountain Gorillas

In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, your adventure takes you into a tropical rainforest in search of habituated mountain gorillas.

The experience is intimate, emotional and unlike a traditional game drive.

Tanzania – Classic African Wildlife on Endless Plains

The Serengeti is famous for its vast savannah, predators, grazing herds and seasonal Great Migration.

Here, your safari unfolds across open landscapes from the comfort of a 4×4 vehicle.

One Journey, Two Different Worlds

By combining these destinations, you experience both forest primates and classic African savannah wildlife.

COMBINE UGANDA GORILLAS & THE SERENGETI

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi is one of Uganda’s most important mountain gorilla habitats.

Gorilla trekking takes place with authorized park guides and trackers.

The walking distance varies, and the terrain can be steep and muddy.

Visitors normally spend up to one hour with a habituated gorilla family, subject to park rules.

Gorilla trekking permits must be reserved in advance, especially during popular travel months.

For travelers with mobility limitations, assisted trekking arrangements may be explored in advance.

Serengeti National Park – Big Cats, Elephants & the Great Migration

The Serengeti is one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.

Its landscapes support lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and numerous antelope species.

The park is also central to the Great Migration, when wildebeest and zebras move through the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem in search of grazing and water.

A private safari gives you flexibility to spend more time observing wildlife and photographing animals.

PLAN MY PRIVATE SERENGETI SAFARI

Uganda Gorillas & Serengeti Great Migration Safari

Would you like to combine mountain gorillas with the Great Migration?

This is one of the most exciting safari combinations in East Africa.

However, the migration is a continuous, seasonal movement rather than a single event.

The best region of the Serengeti depends on your travel dates.

Typical Seasonal Migration Patterns

December to March: Herds are often concentrated around the southern Serengeti and Ndutu region, with calving generally occurring during this period.

April to May: Herds commonly move through the central and western parts of the ecosystem, depending on rainfall.

June to July: Migration activity may be found around the western corridor and towards the northern Serengeti.

August to October: The northern Serengeti and Mara River region are often important for migrating herds and potential river crossings.

November: Herds commonly begin moving south again, depending on rainfall.

These are broad seasonal patterns, not fixed schedules.

River crossings and specific migration sightings are never guaranteed.

Add Ngorongoro Crater to Your Uganda & Tanzania Safari

Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations.

Its dramatic landscape and concentration of animals make it a rewarding addition to a Serengeti safari.

Potential wildlife includes:

  • Lions
  • Elephants
  • Buffaloes
  • Zebras
  • Wildebeest
  • Hippos
  • Black rhinoceros

Adding Ngorongoro generally requires additional time and budget, but it creates a more complete Tanzania wildlife experience.

ADD NGORONGORO CRATER TO MY SAFARI

Add Chimpanzee Trekking in Uganda

For travelers interested in primates, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park is an excellent addition.

It offers a very different experience from mountain gorilla trekking.

Chimpanzees are highly active and social, and their calls can be heard echoing through the forest.

We recommend the 12-day itinerary for travelers wanting both chimpanzees and mountain gorillas before continuing to Tanzania.

How Do You Travel from Uganda to the Serengeti?

The most practical approach for many travelers is to use regional flights between Uganda and Tanzania.

A common route is:

Bwindi → Entebbe → Kilimanjaro/Arusha → Serengeti

Depending on available schedules, the journey may involve overnight stops.

A separate flight into the Serengeti can reduce long road transfers.

Alternatively, travelers can continue by road from Arusha through the Ngorongoro highlands into the Serengeti.

There is no assumption of a direct scheduled flight from Bwindi to the Serengeti.

We plan the connections according to the actual airline schedules for your travel dates.

Uganda Gorilla & Serengeti Safari FAQs

Can I combine gorilla trekking in Uganda with a Serengeti safari?

Yes. Uganda and Tanzania can be combined in one safari using scheduled regional flights and private safari arrangements.

How many days do I need?

Seven days is a compressed highlights itinerary. Ten to twelve days is generally better for a balanced experience.

How much does a Uganda gorilla and Serengeti safari cost?

Our indicative planning prices begin at US$5,250 per person for seven days, based on two travelers sharing. Final prices depend on dates, flights, accommodation, permits and park fees.

Is a gorilla permit included?

Our proposed packages assume one standard Uganda gorilla trekking permit per eligible guest. Your final quotation must explicitly confirm this.

How much is a Uganda gorilla trekking permit?

Permit prices depend on nationality/residency category and the tariff applicable to your travel dates. We will confirm the current Uganda Wildlife Authority rate before issuing your final quote.

Is the Serengeti good for seeing the Big Five?

The Serengeti is excellent for lions, leopards, elephants and buffaloes. Black rhinos are much harder to encounter there. Adding Ngorongoro Crater may improve your opportunities, although sightings are not guaranteed.

Can I see the Great Migration?

Yes, the Serengeti ecosystem supports the Great Migration. Your camp location should match the expected seasonal movement, but specific sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

What is the best month for gorillas and the Great Migration?

June to September is popular for combining gorilla trekking with northern Serengeti migration opportunities. December to February can be attractive for southern Serengeti calving-season travel.

Can I start in Tanzania and finish in Uganda?

Yes. The itinerary can be reversed according to flights, permits and your preferences.

Can I start from Kigali?

Yes. Kigali can be considered as a starting point for accessing southwestern Uganda, subject to border and visa requirements.

Are fly-in safaris available?

Yes. Domestic and regional flights can reduce road travel, subject to actual schedules and availability.

Can children join?

Families can enjoy Tanzania wildlife safaris, but gorilla trekking in Uganda has a minimum age requirement of 15 years. We can arrange alternative activities for younger children.

No. Wildlife is free-ranging, and sightings depend on natural animal behaviour, habitat, weather and other conditions.
