12-Day Karamoja to Batwa Cultural Safari – From US$4,350 pp

From Uganda’s Northeastern Plains to the Forests of Bwindi

Duration: 12 Days / 11 Nights

Price: From US$4,350 per person sharing

Best For: Cultural travelers wanting to experience the contrast between Karamoja and southwestern Uganda.

This is not a rushed “tribal tour.”

Karamoja and Bwindi lie in very different parts of Uganda.

Twelve days gives us enough time to begin connecting these cultural landscapes while making the travel itself part of the story.

Day 1: Entebbe – Eastern Uganda

Begin your private journey from Entebbe/Kampala.

Day 2: Eastern Uganda – Karamoja

Travel into northeastern Uganda and meet your local cultural host.

Day 3: Karamojong Cultural Experience

Spend the day learning about community life, manyatta traditions, livestock and pastoral heritage.

Day 4: Karamoja – Kidepo Valley

Continue north into Kidepo Valley National Park.

12-Day Karamoja to Batwa Cultural Safari – From US$4,350 pp

Day 5: Kidepo Wildlife & Landscapes

Explore the park’s extraordinary savannah and valleys.

Day 6: Kidepo – Northern/Central Uganda

Begin traveling south with an overnight stop to break the journey.

Day 7: Continue through Uganda

Travel through the country’s changing landscapes towards western Uganda.

The long-distance journey itself reveals just how geographically and culturally diverse Uganda is.

Day 8: Western Uganda Cultural Landscapes

Continue through western Uganda with an appropriate cultural or community experience incorporated according to the final route.

Day 9: Continue towards Southwestern Uganda

Travel deeper into Uganda’s southwest as the landscape becomes greener and increasingly mountainous.

Day 10: Arrive in the Bwindi Region

Reach the forests and hills surrounding Bwindi.

Settle into your lodge and prepare for the cultural experiences ahead.

Day 11: Batwa Heritage & Community Experience

Meet local hosts for a community-led experience introducing aspects of Batwa heritage.

Learn about the historical relationship with the forest, traditional knowledge, plants, food, tools, stories and the realities of cultural change.

The aim is not to present Batwa people as living in the past.

It is to allow hosts to explain their own heritage and contemporary story.

Optional Upgrade: Add mountain gorilla trekking by extending the itinerary or restructuring the Bwindi stay, subject to permit availability and applicable fees.

Day 12: Bwindi – Entebbe / Continue Journey

Begin your return journey or connect with the next stage of your Uganda safari.

Depending on your international flight schedule, an additional overnight may be advisable.
