Lake George


 LAKE GEORGE

Found next to Queen Elizabeth national park in western Uganda, Lake George is in the western end of the great African rift valley. Its depth is roughly 2.4 meters, so modest and shallow; its area is roughly 250 kilometers squared.

The main water flowing to Lake George from mubuku, rumi, Nsonge dura andmpanga from North Eastern part; the lake outflows its waters to the breathtaking kazinga channel connecting to Lake Edward. The lake is supplied by variety of water bodies overflowing from the spectacular Ruwenzori mountains also known as mountains of the moon.

Rain seasons for Lake George begin in October and May. Among many other species, the interesting lake is home to numerous types of fish thermal cyclops, tilapia nilotic; papyrus swamps board the lake and house many bird species; the Sitatunga antelopes also occupy islands and major ones include iranqra, akika and kankuranga.

Apart from tourism, fishing is one of the main activities done here, hence the lake is rather helpful to the residents since it generates income that helps to raise living standards.

Named for a British royal family member “Prince George who subsequently became King George V of the United Kingdom, Lake George is British man “Henry. M. Stanley explored the lake in 1875 and was the first white guy to investigate it.
