How Do You Apply for a Uganda Visa from the UK?
The application is completed online.
Uganda Immigration’s process involves starting a new application, selecting the relevant visa category, completing the electronic form, uploading supporting documents and making the required payment.
After submission, immigration authorities review the application and may request additional information.
If approved, you receive an approval/authorisation letter electronically.
Print this document and travel with it.
Current UK guidance says the authorisation letter includes a barcode and should be shown on arrival, when border officials issue the visa.
Do not simply arrive at Entebbe assuming you can sort everything out without completing the required online process.
Beware of Fake Uganda Visa Websites

Uganda’s Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control has previously issued a specific warning about fraudulent eVisa application portals.
Some unofficial websites can look convincing while charging excessive fees or creating the risk of losing your money and personal information.
The official Uganda Immigration website currently lists the ordinary tourist visa at US$50.
If a website is trying to charge you substantially more merely for a standard visa application, check carefully what service you’re actually using.
The safest approach is to access the application through the official Uganda Immigration website rather than clicking random sponsored or third-party visa advertisements.
How Long Does a Uganda Tourist Visa Last?
Uganda’s single-entry tourist visa can be granted for up to three months.
There is an important distinction between the visa/stay and your approval authorisation.
Uganda Immigration says the visa approval authorisation is valid for 90 days from the date of approval. If you don’t travel within that period, the authorisation becomes invalid and you need to make another application.
Therefore: Don’t apply unnecessarily early.
But don’t leave everything until the night before your flight either.
Prepare your documents and allow sensible processing time.
What If You are Combining Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda?
This is where the East African Tourist Visa becomes interesting.
If your African holiday includes:
Uganda + Kenya + Rwanda you can consider the East African Tourist Visa rather than arranging separate tourist visas for each participating country.
The visa currently costs US$100, is valid for 90 days and allows multiple travel between Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda while it remains valid and you stay within the participating bloc.
Importantly, the country issuing the visa should be your first point of entry.
So if your itinerary is: London → Entebbe → Uganda → Rwanda → Kenya
you would normally apply through Uganda because Uganda is your first destination.
But if your trip starts: London → Nairobi → Kenya → Uganda → Rwanda
Kenya is the first entry point.
The East African Tourist Visa does not include Tanzania.
That means a safari combining Uganda’s gorillas with Tanzania’s Serengeti requires different immigration planning.

Do You Need a Visa If You are Only Coming for Gorilla Trekking?

For travellers coming such a long distance, however, I usually recommend considering whether you can spend longer.
Instead of flying to Africa only for one gorilla trek, you could spend 7–10 days combining:
Bwindi → Queen Elizabeth National Park → Kibale Forest

Gorilla permits are limited.
If gorilla trekking is the main reason for your holiday, I would prioritise:
Choose travel dates → check gorilla permit availability → design safari → confirm arrangements → prepare visa application.
Don’t build an entire international holiday around a gorilla trekking date that hasn’t been checked.
